Construction to fix pavement that collapsed on westbound Interstate 470 in Kansas City is under way and scheduled to be finished no later than Sept. 15. MoDOT closed the highway on July 17 after a land slide caused the wall to fail and the road to collapse. A new 225-foot bridge extension will be added to the existing bridge at that location, replacing the failed road and wall. MoDOT awarded a $4.5 million contract for the work to Pyramid Contractors, Inc. of Olathe, Kan. on July 22. Missouri's wet summer has caused recent road closings throughout the state. While all but a handful of highways have reopened, MoDOT reminds you to check its Traveler Information Map before heading out to get the latest road conditions.
