A shootout in Poughkeepsie, New York killed a police officer who succumbed to his injuries on Friday. The deceased suffered a single bullet to the head. Poughkeepsie Police Department did not release the name of the deceased officer and termed it pending for the approval of his relatives. A press conference for the purpose is scheduled today at noon at the Poughkeepsie City Hall, 62 Civic Center Plaza. The name of the veteran official may be released in the conference.
He was not alone as another policeman was injured and under treatment as Vasser Medical Center.  Poughkeepsie Police Chief Ronald Knapp held a press conference and disclosed the details to the media this afternoon. He said “Today is the worst day of our city has seen perhaps in our history,”
Two other people also died in the incident. The killer also died of gunshot wounds at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.  An unidentified woman was also hit. She is suspected to be killer’s wife. The alleged gunman was fatally wounded in a clash with police.
The detail released so far is somehow like this. The confrontation started in afternoon on Friday in a small parking lot. Authorities received reports of Poughkeepsie shooting a bit late. The eye witnesses noticed a man fleeing the scene of the shooting with a child in his arms.
The police are continuing their investigation even on Friday. Outside, a flag at half-mast in memory of an officer killed doing his job could be seen.
