Carnival Splendor Fire: Cruise Ship Left Adrift Following Blaze

A cruise ship heading to Mexico was unfortunately left adrift on Monday, after a fire broke out in the engine room. According to officials, the crew of the Carnival Splendor battled the blaze for three hours and luckily, no one was hurt in the incident.
According to msnbc.msn.com, a statement from Carnival Cruise Lines said that the fire had started at around 6am, but was extinguished by 9:10am. The ship, which was around 55 miles off the northern Baja coast at the time, is carrying 1,167 crew members and 3,299 guests.
However, a statement on the cruise line’s website states that several key systems are currently unavailable, such as air conditioning, telephones, toilets that flush and hot food. Although the statement did go on to say that the crew was working to restore these services.
