New York City says its public school system will remain open despite the snow.School Chancellor Cathie Black made the announcement at 5 a.m. today. But she said all field trips planned for the day will be canceled.New York City public schools have only closed six times since 1978.Snow started falling late last night. By 4 a.m., 8.8 inches had fallen on Central Park.Meanwhile, there are transit delays but no so far no cancelled subway lines. Uptown- and Bronx-bound 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains, and the A, E, D, and F lines in both directions are running local during various parts of their routes, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said.
